Cleocin/Clindamycin Vaginal Cream

What is it?

This medication is an antibacterial cream used to treat Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).

Notify your provider if:

* You have ever had an allergic reaction to clindamycin or lincomycin (Lincocin).
* You have colitis.

Use:

* Do not have sex while using this cream. Intercourse can decrease the effectiveness of the cream
* This medication contains mineral oil which can weaken rubber or latex products. Do not use this cream with condoms, cervical caps, or diaphragms.
* Continue to take this medication as prescribed, even if you start to feel better to ensure resolution of the infection.
* Do not miss any doses. If you do miss a dose, take it as soon as you can.
* Call the office if your symptoms do not improve or get worse while on this medication.
* Do not get this cream in your eyes. If you do, rinse your eyes with large amounts of water.
* The cream may leak out of your vagina during use. To protect your clothing, it is okay to wear a mini-pad. Do not use tampons while using this medication as they can interfere with the medications effectiveness.

Side effects:

* Constipation
* Soreness around the outside of the vagina
* Heartburn

Notify the office if you experience:

* Yeast infection
* Burning, itching, rash, redness, swelling or other signs of skin problems
* Pain with sex
* Headache
* Stomach ache
* Diarrhea
* Dizziness
* Nausea/vomiting

Things to remember with any medication:
* Keep medications away from children.
* Store medications in a cool, dark, dry environment.
* Throw away medicine that is outdated.
* Take medicine as prescribed.
